Romanian PM Backs Increased Defense Spending Under 'Rearm Europe' Plan

Romania

Romanian Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu announced his support for increased defense funding under the 'Rearm Europe' Plan, provided the money is directed exclusively to Romanian defense industry plants, CE Report quotes Agerpres

"The European Commission confirms that Romania is right—defense spending will not count towards the budget deficit! I will respond to the Commission’s letter, agreeing to allocate additional funds for armament, on the condition that they support Romanian defense plants. This will enable us to create more jobs and operate in three shifts," Ciolacu stated in a Facebook post.

He also highlighted the European Commission's proposal for a 150 billion euro loan instrument to boost defense investments and private capital, which could help establish new production facilities in Romania.

"Our stance remains unchanged: yes to increased defense spending, no to sending Romanian troops to Ukraine," Ciolacu affirmed.
