Romania Lights Up in Red for European 112 Day

Romania

Over 100 public and private buildings across Romania will be illuminated in red today to mark European 112 Day, highlighting the importance of responsible emergency calls, CE Report quotes Agerpres

The Special Telecommunications Service (STS) invited public institutions and private companies to join the campaign, with offices, financial and cultural establishments, tourist sites, and corporate buildings in Bucharest and 30 counties participating.

STS emphasizes that misuse of the 112 emergency number can delay critical response efforts. In 2024, thanks to collaboration between STS, first responders, and telecom operators, non-emergency calls dropped by nearly one million. Out of 9.7 million calls received, 60.45% were genuine emergencies, but over 3.8 million did not require first responders.

This initiative aims to raise awareness of the essential role of 112 and encourage its responsible use.
