Romania Surpasses Seven EU Countries in GDP Per Capita

Romania

Romania has overtaken seven EU member states in GDP per capita and continues to grow, Finance Minister Tanczos Barna announced on Saturday, CE Report quotes Agerpres

Citing Eurostat data, Barna highlighted that Romania now surpasses Poland, Hungary, Croatia, Slovakia, Latvia, Greece, and Bulgaria in GDP per capita and is approaching Estonia. He emphasized that Romania's economy is on an upward trajectory, driven by solid economic growth and increasing labour productivity.

The minister noted that Romania is leading among Central and Eastern European nations in labour productivity. Structural shifts over the past decade, including a decline in agricultural employment and growth in the service and industrial sectors, have contributed to this progress. Investments in agriculture have also boosted productivity significantly.

Barna pointed out that continued investments and the support of the National Bank of Romania are key to sustaining this momentum. He highlighted the country's increasing international reserves as a sign of economic stability and credibility, setting the foundation for an anticipated 2.5% economic growth in 2025.
