UK announces new sanctions against Russia
The United Kingdom has announced a new package of sanctions targeting Kremlin financial resources used to fund the war, “propagandists” and individuals accused of involvement in the torture of Ukrainian civilians, CE Report quotes MOLDPRES.
A total of 23 individuals and entities will be targeted by measures including asset freezes and travel bans, while eight vessels linked to Russia’s so-called “shadow fleet” will face trade sanctions.
The measures are aimed at maintaining economic pressure on Moscow ahead of the winter months, which in the years since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion in 2022 have seen intensified attacks on Ukraine’s electricity grid.
The sanctions also target seven individuals “for their role in the indoctrination and militarization of Ukrainian children, including those deported by Russian authorities,” as well as eight people involved in the “arbitrary detention, torture and mistreatment of Ukrainian civilians,” according to the UK Foreign Office.
“We are targeting both the revenues that help sustain Russia’s aggression and those responsible for abhorrent acts against Ukrainian civilians, including children. The UK will not waver in its support for Ukraine,” Minister for Europe Lord Wood of Anfield said.
