The Princess of Wales, Kate Middleton, got a warm welcome as she arrived in the Italian city of Reggio Emilia for her first foreign trip since she said she was in remission after her 2024 cancer diagnosis.

A big crowd of admirers, many waving British flags, were waiting for her in the square outside the city's cathedral, CE Report quotes ANSA.

She was greeted by local officials, including Mayor Marco Massari, and a group of pre-school children.

The princess also hugged Elizabeth Spencer, a 24-year-old London-born disabled woman who lives in Berlin and had come from Germany especially to see her.

"I wrote her a letter and gave it to her today.

It's a dream come true," Spencer said.

The princess is spending two days in Italy for a fact-finding mission regarding her work on early years child development, and chose Reggio for its world-leading Reggio Emilia Approach to the issue.

A Kensington palace statement said it would enable her to see "how the Reggio Emilia Approach creates environments where nature and loving human relationships come together".
