European leaders demand Iran halt strikes immediately
France, Germany and the United Kingdom have strongly condemned Iran’s indiscriminate and disproportionate missile attacks on countries in the region and said they are prepared to take measures to protect their interests and allies, including proportionate defensive actions to destroy Iran’s missile and drone launch capabilities.
This is stated in a joint declaration by the European Three (E3), released by the press service of the German federal government, CE Report quotes Ukrinform.
“E3 leaders are appalled by the indiscriminate and disproportionate missile attacks launched by Iran against countries in the region, including those not involved in initial US and Israeli military operations. Iran's reckless attacks have targeted our close allies and are threatening our service personnel and civilians across the region,” the statement says.
European leaders called on Iran to immediately halt such attacks and warned of possible retaliatory measures.
“We call on Iran to stop these reckless attacks immediately. We will take steps to defend our interests and those of our allies in the region, potentially by enabling necessary and proportionate defensive action to destroy Iran's capability to fire missiles and drones at their source,” the statement reads.
As previously reported, French President Emmanuel Macron confirmed that during a drone attack on the port of Abu Dhabi, a French naval base located near a United Arab Emirates military base was hit; however, the damage was limited to material losses.
Iran also launched two missiles toward Cyprus, where the United Kingdom has military bases.
