Israel strikes Lebanon after Hezbollah rocket attack
Israeli forces carried out strikes on Lebanon today, including the capital Beirut, after the Iran-backed Shiite movement Hezbollah launched rockets at Israel overnight in retaliation for the assassination of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
The war with Iran is thus expanding further into Lebanon, CE Report quotes STA.
The Israeli military said it had begun striking Hezbollah targets across Lebanon and urged residents of more than 50 villages to evacuate.
Residents of southern Lebanon are fleeing the area en masse.
Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam, whose government is pushing for Hezbollah’s disarmament, described the Israeli rocket shelling as irresponsible.
