Prime Minister of Poland Donald Tusk said he had received information from Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski that Poland’s embassy in the United States had received an invitation to the meeting inaugurating the work of the "Board of Peace."

As he noted, it will take place on 19 February in the United States, CE Report quotes FENA.

“The invitation is for the Polish prime minister or the Polish president, it is open,” the prime minister said.

“In the current circumstances, given the principles, the status of Board of Peace and its direct objectives, mainly related to the reconstruction of (the Gaza Strip), as well as certain constitutional doubts regarding the shape of this Council, Poland will not join the work of the Board of Peace,” Tusk stated.

“But we will continue to analyse the situation,” the prime minister added. “If circumstances change that make it possible to join the Board of Peace’s work, we do not rule out any scenario,” he explained.

The head of government said that “if the president, as an observer, decides to take part in the meeting in the United States on 19 February, he will of course receive a full dossier from the government on how to proceed.”

“I see no reason for anyone to question the value of these good Polish-American relations, but in no way will we give up our sovereign right to express opinions, sometimes to have a different view on various issues than our most important ally,” Tusk said ahead of the cabinet meeting.
