Pro-Palestinian U.S. resident faces deportation
A Louisiana judge has ordered the deportation of Mahmoud Khalil, a prominent U.S.-based pro-Palestinian protest leader, to either Algeria or Syria. The decision came after Khalil allegedly failed to disclose key information in his green card application, CE Report quotes ANSA.
According to court documents filed Wednesday, Judge Jamee Comans ruled that the omission was not an innocent mistake but a deliberate misrepresentation of essential facts.
Khalil, a legal permanent resident married to a U.S. citizen and father to a U.S.-born child, was detained by immigration authorities for three months earlier this year. He was released in June but remained under the threat of deportation.
In a statement to the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), Khalil claimed:
"It’s no surprise that the Trump administration continues to retaliate against me for exercising my right to free speech. Their latest attempt, through a sham immigration court, once again reveals their true character."
