Egypt will not deviate from its historic commitments to the Holy Monastery of St Catherine on Mount Sinai, Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty assured during a joint statement with Greek Foreign Minister George Gerapetritis in Athens, CE Report quotes Athens-Macedonia

Abdelatty said an agreement between Egypt and the Monastery, to be celebrated with Greece’s presence, is forthcoming. He emphasized that the monastery is sacred and “untouchable,” rejecting what he called “malicious and baseless rumours.”

He highlighted that Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi considers the monastery a spiritual and cultural bridge between the two nations. “No one can harm this monastery,” he said.

The minister also underscored the importance of Egypt's unwavering commitment to religious heritage sites and its role in fostering regional understanding.

Marking the 5th anniversary of the Egypt-Greece EEZ agreement, Abdelatty noted it as proof that political will enables mutually beneficial solutions. He also proposed enhanced cooperation on legal migration, suggesting that Egypt’s workforce could meet Greece’s labour needs.
