Greece, Egypt Reaffirm Ties
Greek Foreign Minister George Gerapetritis met with his Egyptian counterpart Badr Abdelatty in Athens on Wednesday, reaffirming the strong bilateral ties between the two countries and addressing regional and religious matters, CE Report quotes Athens-Macedonia
Gerapetritis said he received assurances that the historic Greek Orthodox Monastery of St Catherine on Mount Sinai will continue undisturbed, praising Egypt’s long-standing respect for religious rights. The monastery, he noted, is “a unique symbol of ecumenical culture.”
Talks also focused on the monastery’s legal status and efforts to promote it as a global religious center. “Our common goal is to preserve its status quo, established over 15 centuries,” Gerapetritis said.
The ministers also discussed regional stability, the Gaza crisis, and reaffirmed their cooperation on humanitarian efforts. Both sides expressed support for Syria’s unity and Libya’s stability, particularly regarding maritime boundaries and curbing irregular migration.
Gerapetritis highlighted the continued importance of the 2020 Greece-Egypt EEZ agreement and emphasized deepening cooperation across all sectors.
