Turkey Urges End to Israeli Strikes in Syria

Politics

Turkey on Monday called for a halt to Israeli military attacks in Syria and urged support for Damascus' efforts to restore stability, particularly in the southern province of Suwayda, CE Report quotes Anadolu Agency

Speaking at a UN Security Council meeting, Turkish Deputy Foreign Minister Nuh Yilmaz condemned recent Israeli strikes on Syrian military sites, including targets in Damascus, calling them violations of sovereignty and international law.

He linked the recent violence in Suwayda — involving clashes between Bedouin Arab tribes and Druze groups — to escalating Israeli aggression, warning that such instability could embolden actors like the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) to disrupt national unity.

Yilmaz stressed the need to prevent further disintegration and welcomed Syria’s post-Assad progress toward political reconciliation. He praised the transitional government under President Ahmad al-Sharaa for launching reforms and promoting inclusive governance since the ouster of Bashar al-Assad in December 2024.

Turkey also reaffirmed its support for continued humanitarian aid and holding accountable those responsible for sparking the recent violence.
