Probe into OPEKEPE Subsidy Fraud Underway

At a press conference in Thessaloniki on Wednesday, Citizen Protection Minister Michalis Chrisochoidis confirmed that a preliminary criminal investigation into Greece’s Payment and Control Agency (OPEKEPE) is in progress. The probe, led by the Financial Crime Unit under the Directorate for Combating Organised Crime, focuses on possible fraud involving illegal subsidies, CE Report quotes Athens-Macedonia

Authorities are analyzing thousands of tax IDs and agency data to uncover whether criminal groups collaborated to unlawfully obtain EU funds. The investigation aims to both identify how the fraud occurred and recover misallocated subsidies. The prosecutor is expected to freeze the bank accounts and assets of those involved once initial findings are confirmed.
