Gov’t Rejects Cover-Up Claims in OPEKEPE Probe
Government spokesperson Pavlos Marinakis on Tuesday dismissed claims of a cover-up in the proposal to set up a Parliamentary Investigation Committee on OPEKEPE, the Greek agency managing EU agricultural subsidies since 1998, CE Report quotes Athens-Macedonia
Speaking to Alpha Radio 989, Marinakis said the move was "institutional" and aimed at clarifying key issues, including technical processes, cross-checking mechanisms, and regional grazing plans.
He rejected opposition demands for a preliminary criminal investigation and stressed that no evidence implicated former ministers Makis Voridis or Lefteris Avgenakis in any wrongdoing.
Marinakis also denied accusations that the committee was intended to shift blame and announced that the proposal could be submitted as early as today, with proceedings expected to conclude in the coming weeks.
