Italy is strengthening its support for the Republic of Moldova in its European integration process and has expressed readiness to provide assistance in agricultural policy and in developing economic opportunities in the sector.

The issue was discussed in Rome during a meeting between Moldovan Agriculture Minister Ludmila Catlabuga and Italian Agriculture Minister Francesco Lollobrigida, CE Report quotes MOLDPRES.

The visit comes at an important moment for Moldova’s alignment with European standards in the agri-food sector. Talks focused on expanding Moldovan–Italian cooperation through joint projects, exchange of expertise, and support for harmonizing Moldova’s agriculture with EU requirements.

The Ministry of Agriculture stated that cooperation will be expanded through shared projects, knowledge exchange, and support for aligning the national agri-food sector with EU standards.

The meeting also addressed a project titled “Support for the Government of the Republic of Moldova for alignment with the EU acquis in agriculture and rural development,” which will be implemented over the next three years by Moldova’s Ministry of Agriculture in cooperation with CIHEAM Bari.

According to the Italian Embassy in Moldova, the meeting represents a “strong new impulse” for supporting Moldova’s European path, including in agriculture and related economic opportunities.

During the visit to Rome, a new agreement was also signed to support Moldovan farmers. It includes measures to help agricultural producers process and sell products according to European and international quality standards.

The agreement is part of a €4 million project aimed at supporting agriculture and rural development in Moldova.

Minister Catlabuga also participated in the Moldova–Italy Agri-Business Forum in Rome, where she presented Moldova’s agricultural development opportunities and prospects for economic cooperation with Italian partners.
