Bulgaria Urged to Secure Borders
Bulgaria should focus on strengthening its border security, said Vice President Iliana Iotova during a visit to Chirpan, amid reports that the UN is preparing for a potential refugee influx from Iran. Drawing on Bulgaria’s past experience during the Syrian crisis in 2011, Iotova stressed that the evolving Middle East situation requires coordinated efforts from both the Bulgarian government and European institutions, CE Report quotes BTA
She criticized the EU's new migration pact, calling it ineffective and problematic, though she expressed hope her concerns would be proven wrong. Iotova also highlighted growing tensions at the Turkiye-Iran border, where families are reportedly attempting to cross, emphasizing the need for secure borders in neighboring countries.
