President Calls for Dniester River Protection
On Dniester Day, President Maia Sandu urged citizens to take responsibility and show solidarity in protecting Moldova’s most important water resource. She highlighted the Dniester River’s vital role in providing drinking water for around 80% of the population and supporting daily life, agriculture, and food security, CE Report quotes MOLDPRES
“This is a call to responsibility,” Sandu said, warning of the dangers of pollution and deforestation to the country’s water resources. She stressed the need for joint efforts to ensure a cleaner environment and safeguard the river for current and future generations.
A photo exhibition dedicated to the Dniester River, featuring works by photographer Maxim Chumash, was also inaugurated at the Presidency. The Dniester basin within Moldova holds around 10,700 million m³ of water, with less than 30% formed domestically, underscoring the river’s crucial role in supplying drinking water, including for 99% of Chisinau’s residents.
