
France and Poland Sign Mutual Defence Pact
At a joint press conference with Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk, French President Emmanuel Macron announced the Treaty of Nancy, outlining enhanced mutual defence commitments between France and Poland. Tusk emphasized the importance of Franco-Polish unity for European cohesion, affirming mutual support "in every situation." Macron highlighted unprecedented mechanisms of solidarity, particularly referencing NATO’s Article 5, and called for a stronger European pillar within NATO.
Both leaders reaffirmed their support for Ukraine and stressed the need for a stable, lasting peace in Europe. Macron also underlined the importance of European strategic autonomy through greater defence investment and domestic arms production.
