The European Union has approved a €1.9 billion economic assistance package for Moldova, the largest in the country's history. This was announced by Siegfried Mureșan, Chair of the European Parliament’s Delegation for Relations with Moldova, alongside Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu, CE Report quotes MOLDPRES

Grosu emphasized that the support reflects the EU’s awareness of Moldova’s challenges and the crucial need for assistance. He stressed the government's responsibility to effectively utilize the funds, with a list of projects set to receive financing.

Mureșan highlighted key improvements in the package, including an increase from €1.8 billion to €1.9 billion, a rise in pre-financing from 7% to 18% (€200 million), and an additional €100 million in grants that Moldova will not have to repay.

The European official reaffirmed the EU's commitment to Moldova, citing concerns over Russian interference and energy pressures. The new support mechanism aims to accelerate Moldova’s social and economic reforms, with €520 million in grants and €1.5 billion in low-interest loans.

The final vote in the European Parliament is expected in early March, with funds to begin disbursing by late April.
