President Gordana Siljanovska Davkova met with Austria's Minister of Foreign Affairs Beate Meinl-Reisinger and confirmed the countries' excellent political relations based on respect and understanding as well as the developed and intense cooperation in telecommunications, banking, culture and education, according to an official press release, CE Report quotes MIA.

"Siljanovska Davkova highlighted the need of putting an end to the Macedonian marathon to Brussels, conditioned by the bilateralization of the European integration process and the double standards for membership," the release said.

Pointing out that the Western Balkans remain a priority for the new Austrian government as well, Meinl-Reisenger said Europe needed the region to be complete.

She stressed the strong support from Austria and confirmed that the Macedonian future was in the EU. She also said that Vienna would like to facilitate potential talks aimed at finding a solution to the bilateral dispute with Bulgaria.

The release also says the president noted that Austria was the greatest foreign investor in the past two decades, with over 50 companies operating in the country. She said economic cooperation had the potential to be even stronger, especially regarding renewables, infrastructure and education.

The ambassador added that Austrian experiences could be helpful for developing the tourism sector, as well.

"Expressing her sincere gratitude for the solidarity and help in the aftermath of the Kochani tragedy, Siljanovska Davkova said that Austria has once again proven it is our sincere friend and partner. They both agreed that the time has come for a visit at the highest level to either Skopje or Vienna," the release said.
