Italy Remembers La Torre and Di Salvo: Symbols of Justice and Civic Commitment

Italy

"Pio La Torre and Rosario Di Salvo are a testament to the values of dedication in defending individual and collective rights, which are the foundation of peaceful coexistence. On the 43rd anniversary of their vile assassination, the Republic pays tribute to their commitment to building a society free from the yoke of the mafia, where legality prevails."

This was stated by the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, in a message sent to Emilio Miceli, President of the "Pio La Torre" Center for Cultural Studies and Initiatives, and to Honorary President Vito Lo Monaco, CE Report quotes ANSA.

"The law proposed by Pio La Torre, which introduced effective legislative measures to repress the mafia association phenomenon, has become a cornerstone in this direction. The effort to eradicate intimidation, silence, and conditions of subjugation rests first and foremost on the dissemination of a strong culture rooted in raising awareness among younger generations about constitutional principles. The Anti-Mafia Educational Project, promoted every year by the Pio La Torre Study Center with the valuable involvement of students and teachers, represents a precious initiative in this sense," the message concludes.
