Italy narrows 2027 Oscar race to 21 films

A total of 21 Italian films are competing to be selected as Italy’s submission for the International Feature Film Award at the 99th Academy Awards.

Eligible films were required to have had, or be scheduled to have, their first theatrical release in Italy or another country outside the United States and its territories between October 1, 2025, and September 30, 2026, CE Report quotes ANSA.

The selection committee, established at ANICA at the request of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, will meet on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, to vote and select the film that will represent Italy.

The Academy is scheduled to announce its shortlist on December 15, 2026, while the Oscar nominations will be revealed on January 21, 2027. The 99th Academy Awards ceremony will take place in Los Angeles on March 14, 2027.
