Russian attack forces Ukraines's nuclear plants to cut power output

Due to a massive Russian attack on December 23, Ukraine's nuclear power plants were forced to reduce electricity generation.

Acting Energy Minister Artem Nekrasov said this at a briefing on Tuesday, CE Report quotes Ukrinform.

"As a result of Russia's massive attack on energy infrastructure, nuclear power plants were forced to reduce their generation capacity. Output will be gradually increased to nominal levels as soon as energy workers restore the networks damaged by the enemy," Nekrasov said.

He stressed that Russian strikes on infrastructure that supplies power for NPPs' own needs and transmits their output to the national grid constitute a violation of nuclear safety standards.

"This must not go unnoticed by the international community. Russia's policy of energy terror must be stopped," Nekrasov said.

As reported by CE Report, he also noted that emergency power outages are being implemented across Ukraine due to the consequences of the attack.

During the combined attack on December 23, Russia used more than 600 drones and dozens of missiles, striking Ukraine's energy facilities, mostly in the western regions.
