Minister Probes Mine Incident

Energy

Romania's Energy Minister Bogdan Ivan has dispatched the Control Corps to the Valea Jiului Energy Complex following a transformer fire that left 300 miners trapped underground without ventilation or an evacuation plan, CE Report quotes AGERPRES

The incident, which occurred a week ago, exposed critical safety failures, including the absence of backup generators. Speaking to Antena 1 on Monday, Ivan said he was “astonished” by the lack of emergency protocols and confirmed that the ministry, in cooperation with the Emergency Management Department (DSU), has formed a working group to prevent similar risks in the future.

“We acted quickly to avoid a catastrophe,” Ivan said, stressing the need for better procedures, safety gear, and emergency systems in all Romanian mines.
