Moldova strengthens support for Ukraine’s cultural heritage
The Republic of Moldova is strengthening its involvement in international efforts to protect Ukraine’s cultural heritage damaged by war, Culture Minister of Moldova Cristian Jardan said.
The minister represented Moldova at the second edition of the “Cooperation for Resilience” Conference, organized by the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine in Lviv, which brought together 22 European countries.
The initiative aims to save and protect Ukraine’s cultural heritage affected by attacks from the Russian Federation, CE Report quotes MOLDPRES.
During the event, Minister Jardan conveyed a message of solidarity and strong support for Ukraine, emphasizing the importance of protecting cultural heritage as part of resilience and reconstruction efforts.
“I sent a message of solidarity and firm support for Ukraine, highlighting that cultural heritage protection is an integral part of resilience and reconstruction. I outlined specific ways in which Moldova contributes to strengthening cultural resilience in the region. We are actively involved in regional cooperation, including the transnational Cucuteni–Trypillia dossier with Ukraine and Romania, aiming for its inscription on the UNESCO World Heritage List,” the minister said.
Jardan also noted that Moldova has partnered with UNESCO on a training program to combat illicit trafficking of cultural goods, helping strengthen institutional capacities and deepen regional cooperation.
The minister stressed that Ukraine’s experience provides valuable lessons for Moldova in developing protection mechanisms and policies adapted to security challenges.
“Since the start of this unjust war, our message remains unchanged: the Republic of Moldova stands with Ukraine until peace is restored,” concluded Jardan.
