Boyana Church exhibition opens in Bulgaria under presidential auspices
An exhibition titled "Boyana Church. At the Dawn of Renaissance" was opened in Sofia, Bulgaria.
It marks the start of events celebrating the 45th anniversary of the National Palace of Culture (NDK) under the auspices of President Iliana Iotova, CE Report quotes BTA.
At the opening, the Head of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church, Patriarch Daniil, said: "I believe that under the leadership of Andriana Petkova, NDK will continue to assert its role as a leading centre of cultural life in Bulgaria, serving as a preferred and cherished place for sharing the highest creative impulses of the human spirit, where artists and cultural figures from Bulgaria and abroad will continue to delight visitors and contribute to the good reputation of our spiritually and culturally rich homeland, Bulgaria."
Daniil noted: "Historical truth bears witness that traditional Bulgarian culture is intimately connected with our Orthodox faith, a faith embodied in everyday life that gives rise to culture. This unity can be traced throughout the historical development of our people and has produced our native saints, the architectural monuments from the Middle Ages and the Revival period, iconography, folk song traditions, works of refined literature, prominent national and public figures, and the virtues of the people. Such a fruit of our Orthodox culture are also the magnificent, unsurpassed iconographic images from the Boyana Church, which we see displayed in today’s exhibition. […] Christian culture is a culture of sanctification, in which each of us is called to holiness and purity, and all together – to free creativity – each according to the talents given by God, following the example of the Creator of all visible and invisible things."
Andriana Petkova, the NDK Director, said: "The exhibition dedicated to the Boyana Church takes us back to one of the greatest achievements of the Bulgarian spirit, created centuries ago but alive to this day. The iconographic examples are a living link between man and God, between the past and the future, between memory and hope."
