Kanye West apologizes for racist and Nazi remarks

Kanye West has issued a mea culpa for racist and Nazi statements that, in recent years, had made him an outcast in the entertainment world.

The rapper, who has gone by the name Ye for several years, purchased a full-page advertisement in The Wall Street Journal in which he published a formal apology for his disturbing behavior over the past years, CE Report quotes ANSA.

Saying that he is undergoing treatment for a neurological condition after experiencing last year “a four-month manic episode marked by psychotic, paranoid, and impulsive behavior” that “destroyed my life,” Kanye added that he “hit rock bottom” a few months ago.

“As the situation became increasingly unbearable, there were moments when I no longer wanted to be here,” he said.

The rapper specifically addressed his long trail of antisemitic tirades, pro-Hitler statements, and the adoption of symbols such as the swastika, attributing that hatred to having “lost touch with reality.”

In the advertisement, Ye expresses remorse: “I deeply regret and am ashamed of my actions in that state, and I commit to taking responsibility, seeking treatment, and changing in concrete ways.”

“This does not justify what I did. I am not a Nazi nor an antisemite. I love the Jewish people,” he wrote.

The advertisement appeared shortly before the release of a new album titled “Bully,” which, according to Spotify, is set to debut on Friday after a long gestation period.
