Bulgarian military historians honoured with commemorative medals

At a ceremony at the Rakovski National Defence College in Sofia on Friday, scholars and university lecturers in the field of military history were honoured on the occasion of the 140th anniversary of the Bulgarian Army’s victories in the Serbo-Bulgarian War (1885).

Outgoing Defence Minister Atanas Zapryanov presented them with the commemorative medal “140 Years since the Serbo-Bulgarian War”, the Defence Ministry said in a press release on Friday, CE Report quotes BTA.

The medals were awarded for contributions to the organization and conduct of academic events and commemorations, related to the marking in 2025 of the 140th anniversary of the Unification of the Principality of Bulgaria and Eastern Rumelia and its defence during the Serbo-Bulgarian War.

In his address to the awardees, Zapryanov underlined that the commemorative medals were presented in recognition of their contribution to the study of the wars fought by the Bulgarian Army in different historical periods, as well as their academic publications, teaching and research activities. He thanked them for their participation in the scientific conference held at the Military Academy, which was one of the key events in the national programme marking the anniversary in 2025, the statement said.
