Serbian popular singer passes away
At the age of 90, Senka Veletanlić passed away today, her son Vasil Hadžimanov announced on Facebook.
“My mother Senka Veletanlić left us this morning after a long illness. She departed quietly, with dignity, in her sleep, like a lady—just as befits her,” Hadžimanov wrote on Facebook.
Serbian singer and actress was born on May 27, 1936, in Zagreb, where she graduated from the Faculty of Economics, CE Report quotes MIA.
She began singing on the radio at the age of three, and during her studies she sang in well-known Zagreb choirs.
She made her first recordings for Radio Zagreb in 1958, and already in 1960, at the Opatija Festival, she performed the song “A Night Without Stars,” rising among the stars of the Yugoslav music scene. She soon became recognizable for her elegance and refinement—always professional, restrained, and temperamentally expressive in her interpretations.
Together with her husband Zafir Hadžimanov, she recorded many highly successful television shows, musicals, and chansons.
In 1967, Senka and Zafir held their first recital at Atelje 212 in Belgrade, and TV Belgrade recorded, for the first time, a live concert of “light music.”
