Amid the major box office success of the psychological thriller The Housemaid, based on the bestselling novel by Freida McFadden and starring Sydney Sweeney, Amanda Seyfried, and Brandon Sklenar, Lionsgate has given the green light for a sequel.

It will be based on the second novel in McFadden’s successful trilogy, The Housemaid’s Secret, with filming set to begin later this year, CE Report quotes ANA-MPA.

The project has been in development for the past few months, with Sweeney expected to return as the lead and executive producer, alongside her co-star Michele Morrone, under the direction of Paul Feig and with a screenplay by Rebecca Sonnenshine, who also adapted the first film.

Producers include Todd Lieberman of Hidden Pictures, Feig, and Laura Fischer for Pretty Dangerous Pictures, while McFadden will also serve as an executive producer.
