Bulgaria's opera star returns to Sofia Gala
An open-air gala featuring opera star Sonya Yoncheva will return to Sofia on August 25 and 27, 2026, her team announced. The Sofia Gala has become a recognized event internationally.
Following its success in 2025 and Yoncheva’s subsequent appearances at the Metropolitan Opera, Paris, Berlin, Munich, Milan, and other major international stages, she will return to Bulgaria’s capital in summer 2026. According to her team, these concerts will be her only performances in Bulgaria next year, CE Report quotes BTA.
The event will take place again at St. Alexander Nevsky Square. Both evenings will feature Yoncheva, joined by internationally acclaimed singers, musicians, and conductors.
Yoncheva commented: “My dream is for Bulgaria to be known worldwide not only for political or social issues but also as a cultural center. Our nation has been a spiritual cradle of Europe since ancient times, and we still have much to be proud of. My team and I will provide audiences with a world-class experience, as we do at Arena di Verona, the Metropolitan Opera in New York, Vienna, Rome, London, and elsewhere. I want Sofia to stand proudly alongside them.”
As reported by CE Report, Yoncheva's team says that the Sofia Gala in August 2025 drew 10,000 attendees for concerts featuring Yoncheva alongside Vittorio Grigolo, Jose Carreras, and Placido Domingo. Other international venues have since expressed interest in repeating the performances that were first presented to audiences in Sofia.
