Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis celebrated UNESCO’s decision to recognize the Minoan civilization as a World Heritage site, calling it a tribute to one of the most brilliant cultures of the prehistoric Aegean, CE Report quotes Athens-Macedonia

In a social media post, he emphasized the Minoan legacy as the root of European thought and aesthetics, noting that symbols like the abduction of Europa and Ariadne’s thread return to modern consciousness with messages of freedom and progress.

Mitsotakis praised the collective effort behind the recognition, highlighting the late Marianna Vardinoyannis’ passionate involvement. He also congratulated the Ministry of Culture, Greece’s UNESCO delegation, the region of Crete, and all contributors.

"In difficult times, another noble goal of our country has become a reality," he concluded.
