The 47th session of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee began on Friday in Paris under Bulgaria’s presidency, with the review of 30 proposed sites for inclusion on the World Heritage List, CE Report quotes BTA

Nominees in the Natural Sites category include locations in Brazil, Denmark, Guinea-Bissau, Mongolia, and Sierra Leone. Cultural site nominations come from countries such as Australia, China, India, Cambodia, Iran, Malaysia, and Nepal.

The Committee is also expected to decide on extending two existing World Heritage sites. To date, 1,223 sites across 168 countries are inscribed on the list.

Running through July 16 at UNESCO’s headquarters, the session features Bulgaria’s cultural and natural heritage, including the official presentation of a special issue of LIK magazine dedicated to Bulgaria and UNESCO.

Bulgaria, a UNESCO member since 1956, is currently presiding over the Committee, which comprises representatives from 21 countries.
