Erdogan: Defend the Family
The International Family Forum concluded in Istanbul on Friday with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan urging global action to protect and strengthen traditional family structures amid mounting global pressures, CE Report quotes Anadolu Agency
Held under the theme “Safeguarding and Strengthening Family in the Face of Global Challenges,” the two-day event gathered policymakers, experts, and civil society leaders to address threats to the modern family.
Erdogan emphasized the family as a cornerstone of humanity, warning that its erosion could lead to societal collapse. He cited digitalization, globalization, and modernization as key forces undermining family bonds, replacing community values with individualism.
The Turkish president also expressed alarm over the country’s declining fertility rate, now at 1.48—below the replacement threshold of 2.1—and announced a major policy initiative: the “Decade of Family and Population” from 2026 to 2035. The initiative will include reforms in education, urban planning, and social policy.
The forum, part of Türkiye’s 2025 Year of the Family initiative and supported by Anadolu as its global communications partner, featured high-level sessions on media, digital life, and demographic trends.
