Vatican Confirms Palace Move for Pope Leo XIII
Pope Leo XIII is expected to live in the Vatican's Apostolic Palace, unlike Pope Francis in Casa Santa Marta, CE Report quotes Kosova Press.
The Papal Apartments occupy the upper floor of the Apostolic Palace, a sixteenth-century building overlooking St. Peter's Square. They contain about ten rooms, including a bedroom, a private library and study, a dining room, a kitchen, and a small chapel.
Renovations to the palace are underway and the new pope is expected to move in soon, a senior Vatican official said on condition of anonymity.
Former Cardinal Robert Prevost is the first American Pope, having been elected to the post on May 8th, after a brief conclave of cardinals.
The Pope currently lives in an apartment he previously used in the building that houses a Vatican doctrine office near St. Peter's.
Pope Francis died on April 21 after leading the Catholic Church for twelve years. He was the first pope since 1870 not to live in a palace, choosing instead to live in the Casa Santa Marta, reports the Vatican.
No one has lived in the palace since February 2013, when Pope Benedict XVI left after resigning, Italian media report.
