Bulgarian artist Valery Mihalkov, known for his Emmy-winning work on the animated series Sagwa, the Chinese Siamese Cat, has passed away, his family announced, CE Report quotes BTA

Born in Sofia in 1960, Mihalkov graduated from the National Academy of Art before moving to Canada in 1990. He joined Concordia University in Montreal as a lecturer in 1997, teaching subjects like stage and character design.

In 2002, he received a Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Individual in Animation for his work on Sagwa, a children’s show that gained international acclaim. Beyond animation, Mihalkov also worked in television and film and was active as a painter, illustrator, and poster designer.
