Romania Returns to London Design Biennale 2025 with Art Mirror Installation

Romania will once again be represented at the London Design Biennale 2025 by the Art Mirror Association from Cluj-Napoca. The event, taking place from June 5 to 29 at Somerset House, will showcase Romania’s innovative art installation, merging art, technology, and sustainable design, CE Report quotes Agerpres

Culture Minister Natalia-Elena Intotero hailed the selection as a significant achievement, emphasizing its role in promoting Romania internationally. The team behind the project includes Cristina Cantemir, Cristina Pop, Ioana Raluca Zamfir, Tudor Scripor, and Tudor Costin.

Art Mirror’s installation will feature three key elements: a physical structure made from recycled CDs arranged in a circular shape with bird-like wings symbolizing freedom, an interactive component with QR-coded CDs revealing illustrated Romanian personalities, and an accessibility feature incorporating the Scripor tactile color alphabet for visually impaired visitors. Over 150 kg of CDs and various recycled materials have been collected for the project.

Supported by the Ministry of Culture, the installation will be displayed in Romanian cities after the biennale as part of a national tour in September. The 2025 edition of the London Design Biennale, themed ‘Surface Reflections,’ will explore the intersection of design, materials, and human experience, also serving as a prelude to the World Design Congress 2025.

Art Mirror, active since 2016, focuses on sustainable art and education. In 2023, it became the first Romanian organization at the biennale, attracting over 200,000 visitors with its ‘Vatra Verde’ installation.
