The recognition highlights Romania's contribution to global cultural heritage and coincides with the 120th anniversary of Romanian-Egyptian diplomatic relations. This achievement was made possible through collaboration between the Ministry of Culture, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Romanian Embassy in Cairo.

The announcement came from Egypt’s Minister of Culture, Dr. Ahmed Fouad Hanno, during a press conference launching the 2025 edition of the fair. Romania’s Ambassador to Egypt, Olivia Toderean, expressed gratitude for this significant opportunity on behalf of the country.

Currently, Romania is participating in the 56th edition of the fair with a collaborative exhibition featuring contributions from the Ministry of Culture, the University of Bucharest, the Romanian Cultural Institute, and the Romanian Embassy in Cairo.

As the largest book fair in the Middle East and Africa, the Cairo event attracts millions annually, with over 3.5 million attendees recorded in 2024. Romania's involvement underscores its growing presence in the global cultural arena.
