Montenegro advances career guidance reform with Employers Union

Mladenka Perić, Acting Director General of the Directorate for Career Guidance, Counseling and Strategic Planning at Montenegro's Ministry of Education, Science and Innovation, and Branka Nikočević, an independent adviser at the ministry, met with representatives of the Employers Union of Montenegro, including President Slobodan Mikavica, Assembly President Slaviša Šćekić, and Marketing and Education Adviser Marina Jovanović.

The meeting focused on the recently adopted Career Guidance Strategy 2025–2030, with particular emphasis on improving the career guidance system and strengthening links between the education system and the needs of the economy, CE Report informs via the Montenegrin government website.

Participants exchanged views on the current state of the education system, highlighting the need for continuous professional development of teachers, improvements in practical training, internships, and other activities that give students direct exposure to the world of work. They stressed the importance of stronger cooperation among institutions to support young people's career development and facilitate their transition from education to the labor market.

Special attention was given to the importance of practical training and the role of career counselors as key actors in guiding young people in their professional development. Participants emphasized that career guidance should begin in primary school and continue throughout students' education, enabling them to make informed career choices based on their interests, abilities, and potential.

The participants expressed their readiness to continue working together on implementing the strategy, reaffirming their commitment to further cooperation in improving Montenegro's career guidance system.
