Teachers in Sarajevo discuss impact of curriculum reform at OSCE-backed event
The OSCE Mission to Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Institute for the Development of Pre-University Education of the Sarajevo Canton jointly organized an event titled “Teachers’ Meetings: Our Small and Big Classroom Reforms” in Sarajevo, marking World Creativity and Innovation Day.
Under the theme “My Journey Through Subject Curricula: What I Have (and Have Not) Changed in My Practice,” the event brought together teachers and students from the Sarajevo Canton and other cantons to present and discuss classroom practices within the curricular reform process being implemented with the support of the OSCE Mission.
The event also provided education authorities with an opportunity to gain insight into how the reform is being implemented in classrooms in different parts of the country, CE Report quotes FENA.
“Reforms are often described in terms of policies and frameworks. However, their true impact is revealed where it matters most: in classrooms where students are encouraged to think critically, in assignments that connect learning with real life, and in a school environment where every student has the opportunity to express their opinion,” said Ivo Lupis, Head of the Human Dimension Department at the OSCE Mission in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Through presentations and panel discussions, participants exchanged views on how the shift toward a student-centred approach has influenced teaching practices in the classroom, highlighting both progress made and remaining challenges.
Quality education is built in classrooms where students are active participants in learning and where teaching is guided by clear learning outcomes that foster critical knowledge, skills, and competencies. The OSCE Mission remains committed to supporting inclusive and quality education through continuous cooperation with education authorities, schools, teachers, and students across the country, thereby fostering community cohesion and resilience and strengthening the foundations of long-term security and stability in Bosnia and Herzegovina, the statement said.
