Montenegro unveils winning design for “Velje Brdo” housing project
The Minister of Spatial Planning, Urbanism, and State Property of Montenegro, Slaven Radunovic, and his associates presented the top-ranked conceptual design (First Prize) for Block A1 at the Science and Technology Park, as part of the first phase of the “Velje Brdo” housing project.
At a press conference, it was highlighted that the awarded design represents a high-quality and modern response to the needs of spatial planning for this area, with a special focus on functionality, sustainability, and the quality of life of future users, CE Report informs via the Montenegro government's official website.
Minister Slaven Radunović stated that the construction of the “Velje Brdo” settlement is one of the key development priorities, and that the implementation of the first phase will contribute to creating a modern and functional urban environment in Podgorica.
The Minister also said that the competition attracted significant international professional interest, confirming not only the importance and attractiveness of the task itself but also the potential of the location.
He informed that 29 entries from different parts of the world were submitted to the competition, noting that all of them offered valuable ideas and different perspectives on spatial development, further confirming the importance of such public and transparent processes.
Presenting the key details of the top-ranked design, Chief State Architect Mirjana Đurišić emphasized the importance of conducting an international competition, stating that such an approach contributes to raising standards in architecture and urban planning, as well as ensuring transparency in the planning process.
In addition to meeting the basic need for affordable housing, she said, the complex aims to enhance the experience of modern collective living through carefully designed public and semi-public spaces, energy efficiency, and functional diversity.
During the presentation, the public had the opportunity to learn more about the next steps in the project’s implementation.
The Ministry will continue to improve spatial planning and urban development through transparent and professional procedures, with the aim of creating a higher-quality living space for citizens.
