Uber expands presence in Slovenia
The ride-hailing platform Uber has launched its service in Maribor, expanding beyond Ljubljana, where it had its Slovenian launch less than a year ago.
The platform became available in Slovenia's second-largest city through partnerships with local taxi operators, in line with national rules that allow only licensed taxi drivers to operate such services, CE Report quotes The Slovenia Times.
Maribor's mayor Saša Arsenovič welcomed the arrival of the service, saying the city supported modern mobility solutions that made transport more accessible for residents and visitors. He said the platform would complement existing transport options and improve connectivity in the city.
While not presenting any specific figures, Uber said demand for its service had grown steadily in Ljubljana since its launch there in May 2025, both among passengers and licensed drivers.
And judging by the number of taxi drivers who perform Uber rides in Ljubljana - most of whom are sole proprietors anyway - the platform appears to have caught on.
Morena Šimatić, Uber's director for Slovenia and Croatia, said cooperation with local taxi operators allowed the company to introduce "modern, reliable and transparent mobility solutions" that complemented existing transport services.
She added that Uber aimed to build long-term partnerships with local providers and become part of Maribor's mobility ecosystem.
