Moldova updates road traffic rules for tires
The government of Moldova has approved a series of amendments to the Road Traffic Regulations, with the main goal of harmonizing national legislation with European Union standards regarding tire technical parameters.
The new provisions focus on the minimum tread depth for several categories of vehicles and trailers, CE Report quotes MOLDPRES.
The draft decision introduces the official concept of “main grooves of the tread surface.” This terminology is used in European regulations to correctly assess tire wear and determine compliance with road safety standards, according to the Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development (MIDR).
The document also aligns the minimum permitted tread depth values with the classification applied in EU member states. These adjustments are technical in nature and aim to unify the standards for checking the technical condition of vehicles.
According to the government’s decision, implementing these changes will not require additional expenditures from the state budget. The new rules will enter into force after a six-month transition period from the date of publication in the Official Monitor.
This period is intended to inform drivers and businesses about the new standards and to adapt periodic vehicle inspection processes to the updated provisions, MIDR indicates.
