A total of 241 citizens have chosen to work legally, in a simple way and with low taxes, using the new freelancer regime.

They registered their activity with the Public Services Agency (ASP) or via the EVO app in the very first days after the new tax regime entered into force on January 1, 2026, CE Report quotes MOLDPRES.

“A number of 241 freelancers have already taken the first step and chosen to work legally, simply and with low taxes. This proves that more and more people have the courage to turn their work into independence and stability. We continue to build a Moldova in which initiative is supported,” the Ministry of Economic Development and Digitalization said today.

As of January 1, 2026, a new tax regime dedicated to the independent economic activity of individuals, known as the Freelancers Law, has entered into force. For the first time, freelancers have a separate legal framework, simplified and adapted to the realities of independent work, without unnecessary trips and without complicated bureaucracy. They will be able to operate officially, without having to open a company and without employing an accountant, while also being covered by social and health insurance, paying a single tax of 15 per cent.

Any citizen of Moldova who carries out independent economic activities in the field of service provision, such as IT, design, photography, creative work, consultancy, architecture, handicrafts, cleaning services and other activities clearly provided by law, can become a freelancer.

As reported by CE Report, the registration of independent activity is free and simple – online, via the Public Services Agency, the public services portal or the EVO application.
