
One in Four Greeks Hide Savings from Partner
Over a quarter of Greeks have a hidden savings account their partner doesn't know about, according to a nationwide survey by the savings and investment app Plum. The survey explored how couples in Greece handle money, including when they start discussing finances and what secrets they keep, CE Report quotes Athens-Macedonia
Specifically, 26% admitted to keeping a secret savings account, with half using it only in emergencies. Another 10% plan to open such an account in the future.
Despite this secrecy, many couples are open about other financial matters. About 61% have disclosed their exact income to their partner, and 23% say they talk about money daily. In total, three out of four couples discuss finances at least once a week, while only 5% avoid the topic altogether.
Regarding timing, 21% begin financial conversations within the first month of a relationship, and 18% within three months. However, 10% wait over two years before discussing money matters.
Plum’s Country Marketing Manager, Mairily Mitropoulou, noted that early financial conversations contribute to stronger and healthier relationships.
