Bulgaria has fulfilled its final commitment required to unlock over BGN 10 billion under the second tranche of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRRP), Justice Minister Georgi Georgiev announced Wednesday, CE Report quotes BTA

The government approved amendments to the Civil Procedure Code, reintroducing mediation as a form of out-of-court dispute resolution. A mandatory information session for litigants is included—both an NRRP requirement and a common European practice.

Georgiev emphasized that the goal is to ease the burden on courts and inform citizens of the benefits of mediation. Parties who reach a settlement through mediation will be refunded 85% of their court fees. The new rules apply to over a dozen types of cases, including lengthy inheritance disputes.

The European Commission has approved the draft bill, which will now be submitted to the Bulgarian Parliament.
