State Budget Surplus Exceeds Expectations

The State Budget for January-February 2025 showed a primary balance surplus of 2.802 billion euros, surpassing the target of 2.029 billion euros and a surplus of 3.378 billion euros in the same period of 2024. Tax revenues increased by 506 million euros, or 4.4%, above the targeted amount, CE Report quotes Athens-Macedonian

The overall State Budget balance for the same period posted a surplus of 709 million euros, compared to the projected deficit of 51 million euros. However, this is a decrease from the 1.437 billion euros surplus recorded in 2024.

Total net revenues for the period reached 11.743 billion euros, surpassing the target by 170 million euros. Meanwhile, expenditures amounted to 11.034 billion euros, 590 million euros lower than expected, and down by 176 million euros from the previous year. Investment expenditures were 1.339 billion euros, 344 million euros below target.

The figures reflect a strong fiscal performance, with adjustments related to time differences in payments, which do not impact the general government's fiscal result.
