Moldova Covers Over Half of Electricity Demand with Imports

On February 5, more than half of Moldova’s electricity consumption was met through imports, with the necessary amount secured via commercial contracts, avoiding emergency supply measures, CE Report quotes MOLDPRES

According to the Ministry of Energy, total electricity consumption on the right bank of the Dniester River reached 15.4 million kWh. Of this, 27.81% was generated by Termoelectrica, 4.06% by CET-Nord, 0.44% by NHE Costești, and 7.6% came from renewable sources. The remaining 60.09% was covered by imports.

On the left bank, total consumption was 3.36 million kWh, with 90% supplied by the Cuciurgan power plant.

Authorities continue to urge consumers to save electricity, particularly during peak hours (09:00-11:00 and 18:00-23:00), to prevent grid overloads and lower energy costs.

Since January 1, 2025, the right bank no longer receives electricity from the Cuciurgan plant after Gazprom halted gas supplies to Moldovagaz, increasing reliance on domestic production and imports.
