Danube Fuel Spill Drill in Ruse
Over 10 institutions in Ruse will practice responding to a simulated fuel spill in the Danube River on May 28, the regional government announced. The exercise, “Danube 2025,” aims to improve coordination in handling fuel spills and protecting the NATURA 2000 area, CE Report quotes BTA
The scenario involves a broken on-shore pipe spilling diesel oil into the river while loading a barge. Participants will rehearse mechanical cleaning and using sorbents to contain the spill. All environmental standards will be strictly followed to prevent an actual incident.
Led by Governor Dragomir Draganov and his deputy Georgi Georgiev, the exercise will take place near Sandrovo village and Aleko Island. Rescue agencies, port authorities, border police, and volunteers will join the drill.
