Ukraine’s cyber units wipe occupation government servers in Crimea
Cyber specialists from Ukraine’s Defense Intelligence (DIU) have delivered a "digital strike" against the Russian-installed occupation government in Crimea, destroying all data stored on their so-called government servers, CE Report quotes Ukrinform.
A source within Ukrainian intelligence informed Ukrinform of the operation.
“As a result of a successful special operation, cyber experts from the Main Intelligence Directorate gained full access to servers containing all documentation of the Crimean occupation authorities,” the source said.
“The large-scale operation lasted several days. A powerful DDoS attack effectively paralyzed information systems and network infrastructure in Crimea.”
While Russian-installed officials scrambled to understand the cause of the system collapse, Ukrainian cyber specialists infiltrated the electronic accounts of the occupation government leadership in temporarily occupied Crimea. They accessed key digital platforms including Dialog and SED electronic document management systems, Delo (document handling), 1C:Docomentooborot (accounting software), Directum, and ATLAS.
According to the DIU, over the course of two days, they downloaded 100 terabytes of documents from the so-called Government of the Republic of Crimea. Among the files were classified documents marked "secret," including information on military sites and logistics routes used to supply Russian occupying forces on the peninsula.
“So much data was extracted that we’ll soon learn many sensational details about the crimes and activities of Russian occupiers in Ukrainian Crimea,” the source stated.
A special thanks, they added sarcastically, goes to Anton Lyaskovsky, Deputy Minister of Health of the Crimean occupation administration, who unknowingly facilitated the success of the operation.
After extracting the data, the DIU cyber units wiped clean all the information stored on servers belonging to regional and district authorities, ministries, and agencies of the occupation government in Crimea.
The breach didn’t go unnoticed in Moscow. “Russia’s State Duma has already described it as part of a ‘hybrid war.’ Meanwhile, the occupation Ministry of Internal Policy, Information, and Communications in Crimea admitted that 'technical specialists are carrying out all necessary recovery measures. However, some services may remain inaccessible to users,’” the source added.
